We are currently working hard to raise about $30,000 to upgrade our old communications equipment with new digital systems. The new digital systems have many benefits that our analog radios don’t. The digital units will be equipped with GPS tracking so that when we are engaged in a search and rescue in coordination with Shomrim, our members’ previously searched locations can be mapped to help more efficiently search the community. The new radios would also be able to be in communication with one or multiple units at a time (as desired) rather than a blanket broadcast interrupting everyone else who is not involved in a specific call. The benefits are large in number (almost as large as the price tag- but yes it is most certainly a worth while purchase!) and we are exploring all avenues of making this transfer to digital as soon as possible.
