We’re likely to observe a star-studded field at the 2019 Western & Southern Open as most of the largest names will be on hand. On the men’s side, we will visit No. 1 seed Novak Djokovic and No. 3 Roger Federer. For both Federer and Djokovic, it’s our first look since Wimbledon. Is a good bet here?
August 12, 2019 * Opportunities accepted
Djokovic is the defending champion at this occasion as he beat Roger Federer at the 2018 final 6-4, 6-4. Shockingly, it was his very first name at this event, and it is astonishing because he has been in the final six times in total.
The trouble is that Djokovic has thrived here of late. Yes, he got the win from 2018 but has been absent at each of the 2 decades prior, he then lost in the final, lost in the next round and lost in the quarters at each one of the three previous decades. His album is in this tournament. The 11 losses tie him .
At the exact identical time, nobody is playing better than him on the hard courts at this time. He is 33-3 on hard courts because the beginning of 2018 (not adding indoor). He’s the player.
There aren’t many serious dangers here. Dominic Thiem is the No. 4 seed but he is a clay-court specialist. Stefanos Tsitsipas is really a clandestine 20-year-old using a shooter but a reduction to Nick Kyrgios in the semis at the Citi Open and to Hubert Hurkacz in his very first match at the Rogers Cup indicates he’s not a true threat.
Then there’s Kei Nishikori, that lost in his first game in the Rogers Cup, Alex Zverev, who’s much better on clay, also Karen Kachanov, who is just 18-17 on the year.
From the more shots, a player such as Kevin Anderson is capable of surprising since he plays well on hard courts but he’s been hurt all year. Marin Cilic is a choice but he about the year. Who’s there to bet in this tournament other?
This is an integral tune-up for your U.S. Open later this season, so I’m anticipating Djokovic’s’A’ game here. He’s been off since Wimbledon and should be new.
Federer is a choice as he’s won this event seven days but he is much better on grass than judges. He is 29-5 in his last 34 about the hard courts; he’s 11-1 in his final 12 on bud.
With Nadal pulling out of this competition after only winning the Rogers Cup on the weekend, so that makes this tournament Djokovic’s to lose in my own books.
Let’s keep it civil and have fun.
