Richard Hannon duo could clash in Middle Park Stakes
Richard Hannon is not ruling out the chance of letting his two star juveniles Threat week and Mums Tipple do conflict in the Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday.
Having bounced back with victory in the Gimcrack in York last month from beats at Ascot and Goodwood, the Cheveley Park Stud-owned Threat stepped up into seven furlongs when landing the Champagne Stakes.
Having now proved his stamina over the trip, the Dewhurst comes into focus.
With relations eager to prevent a battle with the celebrity juvenile Pinatubo of Charlie Appleby, Threat could drop back to six furlongs in the Middle Park – throwing a potential clash with his 11-length and stablemate York revenue race champion Mums Tipple.
Hannon stated:”Threat has come out of Doncaster totally fine. He’s at the Middle Park and the Dewhurst, so we’ll see.
“They (Threat and Mums Tipple) have different owners, so that they might (run against each other).”
Cheveley Park’s managing director Chris Richardson is not committing to either Group One decoration but admitted the display of Pinatubo on Sunday at the National Stakes has given Threat’s team food.
Richardson said:”He has come from this race nice. We have got to try and determine where we go next with him.
“I guess the question is whether to go to the Middle Park or even wait for the Dewhurst. We will just have to find out what ends up.
“He came through the race the other day and I believed he’d win by two lengths, but when he struck the front he just did a lot. It was a tiny bit heart in the mouth at the same point.
“Mr and Mrs Thompson (owners) will decide on where he goes. We don’t wish to be preventing one horse for a lot could happen between now and then, but at this point I think we will most likely be preventing that (Pinatubo), being watched him sluice upward in Ireland.
“We won’t make any rash decision and we’ll just enjoy the second. We do not wish to hurry away from 1 horse since they could have bad times, but I guess we will just have to watch this space and find out how things develop.”
